Classroom Microgreens
Where curiosity sprouts

LARA brings hands-on food production directly into the classroom through our Microgreens Program. Designed for Grades 4–6, this interactive workshop invites students to take part in the full growing cycle of nutrient-dense microgreens—from preparing trays and selecting seeds to planting, caring for, and harvesting their own food.
A Living Classroom Experience
This program transforms the classroom into a miniature growing space where students can explore the foundations of plant growth and food production:
Seed Selection & Planting – Students prepare their trays, choose from a variety of microgreen seeds, and plant their own crop to nurture and observe.
Care & Observation – Students learn how water, light, and temperature influence growth while tracking the daily changes in their emerging plants.
Harvesting & Eating Local – Through discussions and hands-on activities, students discover where their food comes from, what it means to eat locally, and how growing even small amounts of food can help reduce food miles.
At the end of the session, each student takes home a freshly seeded microgreen tray—giving them the opportunity to continue observing growth, record changes, and enjoy the harvest they produced themselves.
Cost & Eligibility
Thanks to generous support from our municipal partners—the MD of Bonnyville, County of St. Paul, and Smoky Lake County—the Classroom Microgreens program is FREE for all schools within our area.
